About Us
Our Story :
18 Karat Appraisers is a third-generation, family owned jewelry business that has its roots in Buenos Aires, Argentina and now calls Beverly Hills home. Abraham Golbert started a jewelry and houseware boutique on Arenales Street in ‘La Recoleta’, a bustling and posh area in the Argentine capital, in the late 1960s. His son Oscar joined the company soon after in the 1970s and helped grow the boutique that began to focus more solely on jewelry as time went on. After over a decade working together, Oscar made the move to Los Angeles in the 1980s and joined the renowned French retail jewelry store Fred Joaillier on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills where he eventually became the Director of the store.
After serving celebrity clientele and building a loyal following at Fred for over a decade, Oscar chose to go back to his roots and open his own jewelry company in 1994. He began his own jewelry appraisal firm in Beverly Hills serving his loyal clientele following, Hollywood celebrities and estate attorneys. After years of evaluating and analyzing jewelry that belonged to his clients, Oscar began acquiring his own collection of one-of-a-kind estate jewelry items drawing on his vast knowledge and experience. His decades of experience helped him develop an eye for quality workmanship and unique design which have helped to shape the present handpicked jewelry collection offered at 18 Karat Appraisers. Hernan, Oscar’s son, joined the family business in 2003 to complete the third generation of the family business and has brought a fresh perspective to the acquisition of estate jewelry while also becoming the lead certified jewelry appraiser / evaluator at the company.
